Demonstration for YASA and Sagesse High School on results of Road Crashes
For two Saturday in a row, YASA in collaboration with Sagesse High School (SHS) students of Grade 6, performed a Demonstration in City Mall under the theme of: “This is What Happens if you Do not…” As a support and appreciation to the demonstration, the students were accompanied by: Mrs. Aurore Ibrahim, Head of Ain Saadeh Municipality; Ms. Rahaf Abdallah, Miss Lebanon; Mr. Cesar Wazen, Responsible of Accreditation in SHS, Mr. Ziad Akl, President of YASA International, Mrs. Mona Khouri Akl, President of YASA Lebanon and the organizing team from the school among which we had Mr. David Haykal and Mrs. Randa Ballouz with other supporting teachers.
This demonstration comes as part of the SHS Active Citizen Project, initiated by Father Gabriel Tabet School Rector and done for the students. The demonstration is part of a complete YASA project coordinated by Mrs. Randa Ballouz (ACP Coordinator) that involved several steps such as Traffic Safety Educational Garden, bulletin board decoration, crash simulation and more.
The aim of this demonstration is to show the people what is the result of road traffic injuries. The students went from the school to the emergency units of Mount Lebanon Hospital and Levant Hospital where they got their bandages done to show different examples of injuries that can result from road crashes. As for casts that showed fractures, they were done as reusable casts by Mr. Massoud Khoury in St George Orthodox Hospital. Each student had a story for his or her injury.
Then after that they all went to City Mall where they held up banners and flags with safety messages and walked around the mall to show the visitors what injuries and sufferings result from traffic crashes. They were all walking and singing a YASA safety song which was written by Ms. Judy Yammine, SHS teacher. The song also reflected the messages that they were relaying to the people. Some of the students were also wearing YASA helmets to emphasis the importance of a good helmet to save lives. The students had also prepared messages that they compiled on a flyer that was distributed to the people with other YASA flyers.
This event left great impact on the students and their parents. YASA would also like to confirm that this demonstration started with Sagesse High School students and will continue to cover all the country and get to a wider number of people.
